Content Creators’ Guide: Share Ideas That Matter

Content Creators’ Guide

A Few Lessons From My First Few Months of Content Creation

When I set out to create content about what’s happening in the world and what we can do to make a difference in September of 2024, I had no idea what to expect. I certainly didn’t anticipate my account would get as much traction as it did. I simply wanted to do the right thing and speak up. Now, several months later, I’ve realized two things:

One, there are so many people out there who want to do what I’m doing, and actually, they should be doing what I’m doing because they have some level of expertise in these ongoing crises around the world. But, for whatever reason, they haven’t taken the leap.

And two, there’s another group, those who’ve gotten started and are offering valuable information, but their content isn’t getting any traction.

I created this page for these two groups of people. To add a few tips from lessons I’ve learned in my content creation journey.

Focus on the Three Most Important Parts of Your Video

I believe 90% of your energy should be on these three parts of your video: your hook, your secondary hook, and your closing.

Don’t Worry About Knowing Everything Before You Get Started

Two lessons here. First, sometimes it’s better to start now and refine later. And second, so many of the “social media experts” who overcomplicate things do so because they anticipate their audience isn’t going to offer a lot of value in their videos. I know that sounds harsh, but after several months, I’m convinced if you have valuable insights and you know how to share them, you will get traction.

Keep it Simple

The curse of knowledge. Well-informed and passionate people often have this problem. Remember: you don’t need to cover everything in one video.

Prepare for Hate (but only for a little while)

All things pass eventually and the initial bombardment of hate usually only lasts about a month.

Keep Scrolling (Know Your Audience)

If you don’t know the vibe of the platforms you're making content for, you’ll miss out. Remember that you’re joining a conversation, not shouting into the void.

Just Do It

There’s so much you’ll learn along the way, but you won’t know if you don’t get started.
